This is the ultimate "hero of the dream" story. Our superhero Spider-Man gets tired of saving people and starts to push away love. He isolates by hiding his identity and keeping secrets. He then seems to lose his superpowers and decides he wants to be a normal guy, but being normal is not the answer. Spider-Man starts expressing the secrets he has carried for years to those around him, and in his willingness to expose private thoughts, he opens up to love, purpose and true service.
Holding onto self-concepts is a way of hiding our true identity. But Holy Spirit can use what the ego made. This movie shows us that we do not lose anything on this journey except what does not serve us anymore. Holy Spirit can and does use our worldly skills and abilities, but only when we put our purpose of being truly helpful as our primary goal.
